Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF) Overview

The Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF) is a co-investment venture capital fund managed by Turquoise International on behalf of the University of East Anglia and regional authorities. Established in 2010, LCIF supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the East of England that are developing technologies, products, or services aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The fund operates by investing alongside private sector co-investors, providing equity finance or convertible loans to businesses that can demonstrate measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. LCIF has invested over £30 million of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funds, leveraging an additional £100 million of private finance into East of England climate-tech companies. The fund has supported over 80 companies, leading to the introduction of more than 100 new products, technologies, and services that collectively save over 10,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. LCIF prioritizes applications from businesses in the East of England, particularly those in the New Anglia LEP, Hertfordshire LEP, and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority regions.
